Bookplates

If you love to read, it is inevitable that you will discover books that you thoroughly love. You'll never want to give them to a secondhand store, donate them to a library, or take them far away from your bookshelves. Loaning them out to people is scary and sometimes even horrifying. What if they do not give them back to you? What if they forget who they belong to? There is a way to help alleviate some of these fears through bookplates.

The purpose of the bookplate is to literally put your name on the book. The plate is placed on the inside cover of your favorite book where you can write your personal name on it. This way there is no doubt whose book it belongs to. Do you have your favorite copy of Aesop's Fables? How about a hard copy of The Lord of the Rings ? You do not want to lose these. With a bookplate on the inside cover of the book, it will not get as easily lost and you can quickly reclaim your precious literary work.

Bookplates years ago were extremely personalized. Since books weren't as common in every single household, the need for a versatile bookplate was not there. If you wanted to put your name in a book, you had it personally created for you with your initials. As in the picture above, this bookplate tells us that the book is owned by someone whose initials are "AK”. No one else would've had this exact same bookplate.

Today you can find bookplates in a wide variety of styles and colors that matches your personality. You can choose a style that is more classic, contemporary, or just plain. If you like tulips, you can find a bookplate decked out in tulips. Discover bookplates with birds of different feathers on them. There is no end to the kind of bookplate you can find to personalize your favorite pieces of literature. Check them out at your local bookstore or, as with any book or literary product, you can purchase it and Amazon.com. Keep Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn safe and sound with bookplates signifying to the world that you are the one who loves and cherishes these books.
