The new age of technology has brought so many changes to us.
Books have not escaped them. We traditionally think of books as paperbacks or
nice hard covers. What technology has brought us is a new form of book – the
ebook.
If you are on the Internet enough, you will encounter
ebooks. There are small ten page ebooks on how to build your own table. You can
find ebooks on gardening and making your own jewelry. What are ebooks? They are
books that can be accessed electronically as a pdf file or on a device such as
a Kindle.
Look online and you can find The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin complete
and ready for you to read. No need to purchase as it is in the public
domain. If you want the latest bestseller,
check on Amazon.com and you might find it available. Textbooks are becoming
available from college all the way down to elementary ages. Traditional schools
and homeschoolers have the option to have ebooks instead of hard copies.
What makes ebooks so appealing? Cost, availability, and
flexibility.
Ebooks are flexible because they can be had anywhere you
have electricity. You can keep them on your computer or wireless reading
device, or you can print them off. Print off only the page(s) you need. This is
great for students researching paper and projects. They can go just about
anywhere.
They are available because you do not have to get in your
car and drive to the bookstore or order the book and have to wait on it. Ebooks
are virtually available immediately. You can download the book right to your
computer. No need to wait on it to arrive.
Cost is one of the biggest factors that make ebooks
appealing. A traditional book could cost you anywhere from $10 and up. An ebook
could be as low as $5 or lower. Most books can be purchased for less than half
price in an ebook format. There is no need to go to a printer. There is no
shipping cost. The only cost is for the idea and work of the author and artist.
Any additional costs will come from the purchaser if they desire to print it
themselves.
Ebooks have become the biggest thing in reading. Books are
more assessable and have become cheaper. Do not dismiss ebooks as a fad. Check
them out and see how they can benefit you and your family.
